My advice for new owners is: don't try to figure out differences, it's nuts. So I still use CloudStation on mobile, which does work as a Drive client to get automatic syncing, as if it wasn't confusing enough. On the Drive client side the Drive mobile client can't sync files locally although it can on Macs & PCs (On Drive you can save files locally one at a time, as you can in File Station, just not automatically). It's needed if you want to use Synology Office or Moments (which overlaps with and will (I'm guessing) eventually replace Photos. As mentioned, there's a lot of overlap between Synology apps.
